The eActros truck is the first fully electric vehicle developed by Mercedes-Benz Trucks, part of Daimler Trucks. The vehicle is designed primarily for urban distribution and short-haul operations, where zero-emission driving is becoming increasingly important due to environmental regulations and sustainability goals – which fits the ESG policy being implemented at Grupa KĘTY S.A.
The aim of the tests was to assess the viability of a project consisting mainly in zero-emission deliveries of profiles to Aluprof S.A. with an electric truck. The project assumes cooperation with a large logistic operator, and availing of the EU subsidies.
We have been planning daily transports between the EPS Logistics Centre in Kęty and Aluprof warehouse in Bielsko-Biała, which means thousands of tons of material a year. The tests will make it possible to assess the optimum number of transports and the way in which internal processes will have to be reorganized in order to bring about measurable benefits.
Also important is profitability. Therefore, with adequate internal organisation and the possible largest number of transports, we might be able to make financial savings. Yet, the very fact of possessing green transport means would be a great success and a starting point for energy transition at the Capital Group.
In order to be able to develop such transport fleet, companies need to fulfil several essential conditions. One of them is short distance between the cooperating plants or warehouses. For Grupa Kęty, which is only 22 km away from its largest customer, i.e. Aluprof, it is practically an ideal situation to develop fully ecological transport solutions on short distances, says Łukasz Dudziak.
Another extremely important condition is an adequately large and stable volume of orders, and properly prepared infrastructure enabling the truck battery charging – in this case it would be an in‑house charging station as a part of the whole investment project.
Just to remind, EPS press shops in Kęty and Tychy manufacture over 100,000 tons of aluminium products a year. Roughly 120 truck-transports are made from various locations on a daily basis to distribute products to our customers in Poland and Europe.
Implementation of innovative logistic solutions as well as laborious efforts on building an effective network of connections within the supply chain brings about significant effects and measurable financial savings.
