The ‘Green Group’ is an employee suggestions programme, within which the Capital Group of Grupa Kęty invited employees to engage in the implementation of the Group’s Climate Policy. In 2023 we received 27 suggestions, and in January awards were given for the suggestion of the second half of the year within the ‘Green Group’ program.
The successful idea consisted in developing software for the operation of a CNC milling machine used in preparing certification test samples from trial sections taken in the extrusion process at the in-house R&D Centre. The new software overpasses the stage of using a traditional saw and miller, which means preparing test samples with only one machine instead of three. Thanks to that energy consumption has been reduced, as well as the quantity of aluminium shavings scrap, and the time of sample taking has been shortened to 54 seconds.
The project implementation has considerably reduced energy consumption in the process of test samples preparation, limited the quantity of waste generated and improved the process efficiency. Electric energy consumption limitation means lower Scope 2 GHG emissions, whereas waste reduction and process efficiency increase perfectly fit the concept of circular economy.
