For many years, Aluminium Kety Emmi has been striving for energy self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. At the present time of high energy prices, even partial self-sufficiency with regard to energy has become more important. Wood biomass and excessive heat from the compressor house provide 100% thermal self-sufficiency for the whole company. In order to become partially energy self-sufficient, the company invested in a solar power plant. The first photovoltaic panels were installed at the beginning of June this year. The whole project was completed in mid July. Aluminium Kety EMII is well situated with regard to solar radiation, has sufficient roof space and its own transformer substation, which enables installation a 1,000 kW plant. At the first stage, a plant of the capacity of 400 kW was installed, which generates 12% of electric energy needed. It has been estimated that limitation of the grid energy consumption will reduce CO2 emission by 109.79 tons a year. An extension of the existing plant has been planned to be completed in summer next year.
