World Cultural Diversity Day for Dialogue and Development – a festival celebrated annually on May 21st, was established by the UN General Assembly.
The resolution refers to the principle of “tolerance and respect for cultural diversity and the promotion and protection of human rights, including the right to development”.
The purpose of the celebrations is to promote culture, cultural diversity, cultural heritage – both tangible and intangible, products of the artistic industry, goods and services related to culture.
Cultural differences decide on intangible social heritage and constitute a process of shaping society.
Protecting diversity also applies to minority rights, endangered languages, and the right to education and expression in the native language.
