May 21st, is the World Cultural Diversity Day (World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development). The annual celebration was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations by resolution 57/249 of December 22, 2002, in accordance with the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity adopted at the 31st Session of the General Conference of UNESCO on November 2, 2001. The resolution refers to the principle of tolerance and respect for cultural diversity and promotion and protection of human rights, including the right to development.
